I see on PlanetDJ that an SDJ2 is coming soon. Of course I just got the SDJ1 2 weeks ago! Has anyone heard any details, like, will it take SDHC cards?

I too recently purchased the SDJ1
I am hoping they come out with a downloadable software for the SDJ1 (allowing it to accept SDHC) surly this can be done. Just spoke with American Audio and this is what they had to say: Hello, I recieved your emailed regarding the SDJ2. The SDJ2 has been in our catalog since January and hopefully will be available sometime on October(if all goes as planned). We have made many changes and improvements since it was first shown in January. It is true that it will read SDHC cards, when we are able to add that, we decided too. We think it makes sense and we will be able to keep the price close to the original estimates. The SDJ2 also includes a mixer and many other features and will be priced upmarket compared to the SDJ1. At the time the SDJ1 was developed, it was not possible to add the SDHC compatibility. It would have delayed the unit at least 6 months. Also, in our research, talking to many many DJs (wedding, party, etc) they said that they typically play 60-200 songs per gig and usually it is the same songs with a few additons. 8 gig (4 gig x2) is plenty and if not, they could carry extra SD cards. We have found QMemory SD 4 Gig cards for under $30.00 online. Let me know if we can be any other help and thanks for purchasing the SDJ1 |

I just got my new SDJ2 2 days before all night bachelor party. I survived.
Works with SDHC (1000 MP3's limit !!!!!) USB2 works as in documentation In case of SD with many MP3's you must wait 3-5 sec. when replacing card to get proper directories and songs info. Only comment now: - monitoring headphones pan button is to small, should be normal size - very sensitive to AC variation, stopped 2 times on stage due to voltage variation, starts 1 sec looping,no reaction on any button, needs hard reset (power OFF/ON) - You must prepare files with no silence otherwise in autocue (continuous play in one device) you get silence gap - Missing of accepting any kind of playlist (not DJ-ing or autocue needed) Payed 344 EU to Thomann Cyberstore, Germany delivered to home in Slovenia in 3 days with two 4Gb non SDHC SD cards, 1 1 Gb card and USB to SD plug |

Have to agree the headphone volume and pan controllers are too small. Haven't experienced any cut off yet due to voltage but it's a concern. Couple of other things that also annoy me a bit. Settings aren't saved when you turn the unit off. I prefer to have the unit in Single Track play mode but everytime it is turned on, it defaults to continuous mode. Also there is no quick flip button to change the display between 'remaining time' and 'elapsed time' which is very useful. You have to hold down the folder key and scroll to the option to change it. A simple thing shouldn't be so complicated to do when you have to monitor these things on the fly. I have one more problem. The USB slot is failing to recognize my 16gig usb key. I have formated it as FAT32, deleted all files which aren't MP3 (unprotected). And I have even deleted every file so it is completely empty but it is failing to recognize it still. I'm out of ideas what to do now. It's recognized fine by my computer. Any suggestions? Otherwise I'm enjoying it a lot. I realise a lot of my complaints are down to American Audio trying to cram as much functionality into as small a space as possible. Looking forward to gigging with this unit. |
